Benefits of the SMK Meister nail plug

Contact

Revolutionary overhead assembly

The biggest advantage of our nail plug lies in the unique assembly technology. You insert the attachment into the drill hole with the dowel — the nail plug holds automatically and your hands remain free to hammer in. This saves an enormous amount of time and nerves when installing ceilings.

Minimal drilling effort

With a borehole diameter of just 6 mm, the MND 6/45 is one of the impact plugs with the lowest drilling effort. This means less dust, faster drilling, and less tool wear on your projects.

Large head for safe impact mounting

The generously sized dowel head provides a wide contact surface for hammers or setting tools. This makes the hammering precise and prevents the tool from slipping off — particularly important when working overhead.

Low borehole depth

Despite its high load capacity, this nail plug requires only a small drill hole depth for drywall. This protects the building structure and enables fixings even with thinner ceiling structures.

Retraction mechanism

The integrated cone with clip ensures continuous expansion in the borehole. At SMK Meister, we thus guarantee permanent and secure anchoring that also lasts reliably in the long term.

Important information about the nail plug

What is the MND 6 (ceiling nail) nail plug used for?

The MND 6/45 is an expansion plug for solid materials, which was specially designed for attaching non-load-bearing systems to ceilings. In practice, you can use this impact plug wherever quick and reliable ceiling fixings are required. With over 50 years of experience in fastening technology, we have precisely defined the areas of application: The nail plug is ideal for installing slats, metal profiles and squared timber. Wooden structures for suspended ceilings, wire suspensions and various rail systems can thus be securely attached. At SMK Meister, we also recommend using perforated tapes and lightweight wood wool boards for ceiling insulation, although a washer should be used here if necessary.

How does the MND 6 nail plug save time when mounting overhead?

The revolutionary concept of our nail plug makes the difference: You pass the dowel through the attachment, put both together into the drill hole — and the dowel holds itself in position. Your hands are free to hammer in with a hammer or setting tool. This is an invaluable advantage over traditional impact dowels, which often require you to laboriously hold the attachment with one hand and hammer at the same time. Our team of experts has calculated that this time savings will allow you to work up to 30% faster on larger ceiling installations. The large head of the nail plug also offers a wide contact surface, so you can hit precisely and powerfully without slipping off.

What fire protection does the dowel offer?

At SMK Meister, we guarantee that the MND 6/45 nail plug meets fire resistance class F 120. This certification means that the attachment will maintain its function for at least 120 minutes in the event of a fire. It is important to use non-load-bearing systems in cracked concrete as multiple fasteners, as shown in the test report. This fire protection standard is often required for safety-relevant installations in public buildings, schools, hospitals or commercial properties. With over 50 years of experience, we know how important certified quality standards are for your projects.

Installing the nail plug

01

Preparation and tool requirements

Before installing our nail plug, you only need a few tools:
- A 6 mm diameter drill
- A hammer (approx. 500g) or a special setting tool
- If necessary, a vacuum cleaner to clean the borehole.

At SMK Meister, we recommend that you calculate the drill hole depth according to the thickness of the attachment: It is 48 mm minus the thickness of your attachment. Mark the drilling depth on the drill with adhesive tape to avoid drilling too deep. Make sure that the attachment has a maximum diameter of 7.5 mm through hole.

02

Carrying out the assembly

Our impact plug is installed in just a few steps: First, drill a 6 mm hole in the intended area of the ceiling. Clean the borehole thoroughly from drilling dust. Now the special feature of this nail plug comes into play: insert the plug through the attachment and insert both together into the drill hole. The nail plug holds itself — your hands remain free! With over 50 years of experience, we have perfected this mechanism. Now hammer the dowel flat with a hammer or setting tool until the head is resting on the attachment. The large head provides a secure contact surface.

03

Follow-up and review

After hammering in, the nail plug is immediately resilient. At SMK Meister, we still recommend a brief visual inspection: The dowel head should rest flat on the attachment. The integrated expansion wedge with clip ensures permanent anchoring. For larger projects with multiple attachment points, you should comply with the prescribed minimum distances: 200 mm between the individual dowels and 100 mm from the edge of the component. This guarantees the full load capacity of each individual nail plug.

FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions about Nail Plugs

For which surfaces is the nail plug approved?

Our nail plugs are approved for concrete in strength classes C20/25 to C50/60.

What loads can the MND 6 bear in concrete?

The allowable load of our nail plug is 1.43 kN in concrete. This information applies to multiple mounting of non-load-bearing systems. With over 50 years of experience, we guarantee that this load capacity is permanently guaranteed if installation instructions and minimum distances are met.

Do I need a special setting tool for assembly?

No, a standard hammer weighing around 500 g is sufficient to install our impact plug. The large head of the nail plug provides a wide contact surface that prevents slipping. Alternatively, you can also use a setting tool, which makes assembly easier and faster. At SMK Meister, we offer you both options.

Can the nail plug be detached or reused?

The MND 6/45 is designed as a permanent mount. The wedge and brace provide a form-fitting anchor in the borehole. Non-destructive dismantling is not provided. For temporary fixings, we recommend other dowel systems from our extensive range.

What is the difference between galvanized and A4 stainless steel?

The standard version of our nail plug is galvanised and offers good corrosion protection for normal indoor applications. Our team of experts recommends the A4 stainless steel version for humid environments, aggressive atmospheres or when maximum corrosion resistance is required. The material 1.4529 is also available for extreme conditions.

Does the approval also apply to cracked concrete?

Yes, at SMK Meister, we guarantee that our MND 6/45 nail plug is approved as a multiple attachment for non-supporting systems, even in cracked concrete. This is documented in the test report and makes the impact plug particularly valuable for renovation projects in old buildings, where cracking in concrete is common.
