Benefits of our plastic processing & injection molding manufacturing

Contact

Optimum corrosion protection

The plastic coating forms a closed protective layer on the metal. This prevents moisture from penetrating and reliably protects your components from rust and corrosion.

Weather resistance

Our plastic coating for the Stuttgart area is UV-resistant and withstands extreme temperature fluctuations. Your components retain their appearance and function for a long time, even when used outdoors.

Diverse color selection

All RAL colors are available at SMK Meister. This allows you to design your components exactly according to your corporate design requirements.

Eco-friendly process

Powder coating is an environmentally friendly process without solvents. Unused powder can be reused, which saves resources.

Chemical resistance

Coated surfaces are resistant to many chemicals, oils and cleaning agents. This makes maintenance and cleaning much easier.

Why are metal parts coated with plastic?

Plastic coating of metal parts performs several important functions. The most important reason is corrosion protection — the closed plastic layer prevents moisture and oxygen from coming into contact with the metal. This effectively prevents the formation of rust. Visual finishing also plays an important role — coated components look high-quality and can be adapted in color to corporate design requirements. At SMK Meister, we use cutting-edge technology to ensure uniform and long-lasting coatings. Our metal plastic coating not only gives your components an attractive appearance, but also significantly extends their lifespan.

Which metals (steel, aluminum, cast iron) can we coat in the Stuttgart area?

Our state of the art machinery enables the coating of various types of metal. We process steel in all common grades, from normal structural steel to high-strength tempered steels. We coat stainless steel in grades 1.4301, 1.4571 and other special alloys. Aluminum and aluminum alloys are also part of our range of services — here we achieve particularly uniform surfaces. We can also coat cast parts made of gray cast iron or ductile iron for you. Before plastic coating is carried out in the greater Stuttgart area, careful pre-treatment is carried out, which is tailored to the respective material. This guarantees optimum adhesion and durability of the coating. Maximum dimensional accuracy is a matter of course for us — even with complex geometries.

Project process

01

Delivery & testing of raw parts

At SMK Meister, every order begins with the careful inspection of your delivered raw parts. Our team of experts checks the components for their suitability for powder coating. We check the surface condition, any previous damage and the geometry. If necessary, we will point out potential problems and suggest solutions. Thanks to our experience, we immediately recognize whether additional preparation steps are necessary. You can either bring your parts to us yourself or use our pick-up service. We document the condition of the delivered parts and issue a detailed order confirmation. Transparency and communication are our top priorities.

02

Pretreatment (cleaning/primer)

Pretreatment is crucial for the quality of the plastic coating. At SMK Meister, the metal parts are thoroughly cleaned first. We remove oils, grease, rust and other contaminants with a parts cleaning system. The parts are then phosphated to ensure the adhesion of the plastic layer.
The pretreatment is carried out in our modern plant under controlled conditions. Only perfectly prepared surfaces guarantee a long-lasting coating.

03

Coating process & baking

After pretreatment, the actual plastic coating takes place in our ultra-modern powder coating plant. The components are electrostatically charged, causing the powder to be evenly deposited on the surface. Through electrostatic attraction, we can also reach hard-to-reach areas and undercuts. The applied powder is then crosslinked in our baking oven at temperatures between 160 and 200 degrees Celsius. In the process, the powder melts and forms a closed, homogeneous layer. The baking temperature and duration are precisely adjusted to the material. After cooling, the plastic coating is completely hardened and can be used immediately. A final inspection ensures that the highest quality standards are met.

FAQ - Frequently asked questions about plastic coating

What is the maximum size of metal parts?

At SMK Meister, we can coat components up to 3000 mm in length. The maximum width and height depend on our system size and is approximately 1500 mm in each case. For particularly large or complex components, we are happy to advise you. In some cases, segmentation or an alternative coating strategy makes sense. Contact us — together we will find the best solution for your project.

Do SMK Meister also offer pretreatment such as sandblasting and degreasing in the Stuttgart area?

Yes, we provide you with a complete service from a single source. We offer chemical and mechanical degreasing as well as other pretreatment processes. Our state of the art machinery enables the optimal preparation of every material. You don't have to worry about anything — we take care of all necessary steps from delivery to the finished coating. With over 50 years of industry experience, we know exactly which pretreatment is optimal for which material.

Are the coatings suitable for outdoor use?

Absolutely. Our plastic coating is UV-resistant and weather-resistant. The components can easily be used outdoors without the color fading or the protective effect diminishing. We use high-quality powder coatings that have been specially developed for outdoor use. Depending on the area of application, we recommend certain powder qualities that are optimally tailored to your requirements.

How thick is the plastic layer on the metal?

The layer thickness is typically between 60 and 120 microns. At SMK Meister, we guarantee uniform layer thicknesses over the entire component surface. This is important for maximum dimensional accuracy and consistent protective properties.

What happens with threads or fits?

On request, we can cover or mask critical areas such as threads, fits or holes before coating. In this way, these areas remain free of coating and their function is retained. Alternatively, we can cut coated threads free again later. Our team of experts will be happy to advise you which solution is best suited for your components. Maximum dimensional accuracy is our top priority.

Does SMK Meister also offer paint removal of old metal parts in the Stuttgart area?

Yes, we also offer stripping and refinishing of already coated parts. Old coatings are removed mechanically or chemically, the surface is treated and then recoated. This is often more economical than buying new components. Refurbishment is particularly worthwhile when it comes to high-quality components. Contact us — we will be happy to provide you with an individual offer for your paint removal project.

How long does processing usually take?

Thanks to optimised processes and short turnaround times, we can process most orders within 5 to 10 working days. Shorter delivery times are also possible for urgent projects. The exact duration depends on the scope of the order, the necessary pretreatment and the current workload. At SMK Meister, extreme flexibility is a matter of course for us. Talk to us — together we'll find an appointment that fits your schedule.
