How does the spring mechanism of the dowel work in the cavity?
The spring clip plug has a clever mechanism: First, insert the folded plug through the drilled hole into the cavity. As soon as the dowel has passed the back of the wall or ceiling, the spring-loaded wings open automatically. When the threaded rod is tightened, the plug pulls against the back of the wall and thus creates a flat distribution of force. The spring ensures that the folding arms are always under tension and press firmly against the material. This ensures secure and durable anchoring, even under dynamic loads.
What is the advantage of spring folding dowels compared to normal tilt dowels?
The decisive advantage of the spring clip plug is the automatic function and the optimised transfer of force. While the folding mechanism of conventional tilting dowels often has to be manually controlled, the spring-folding dowel opens automatically. In addition, the spring force ensures a constant preload, which is maintained even during vibrations or movements.

For special applications, we offer the spring clip plug with hook — ideal for hanging pipes, cable lines or lamps. The version with hexagon nut and U-disk is ideal for plugged-out fixings. In addition, we can also offer you special designs with eyelets or individual thread lengths upon request. Installation
Preparation/tool requirements
To install the spring clip plug, you only need a few tools: a drill of the appropriate diameter (see table), a drill and a wrench or open-end wrench to tighten the nut. First check the condition of the wall and make sure that there is sufficient cavity depth. Mark the drilling location precisely and check that there are no pipes or pipes behind the wall. At SMK Meister, our experts recommend that you always comply with the specified drill diameters in order to achieve optimal holding values.
Carrying out the assembly
Assembly takes place in just a few steps: First drill the hole of the intended diameter through the wall or ceiling. Make sure that the drilling depth is sufficient so that the spring clip plug can be fully inserted. Now put the folded spring plug through the drill hole until it completely disappears into the cavity — you will feel when the springs open on the back. Then tighten the threaded rod by hand. The opened dowel pulls against the back of the wall and creates the desired surface distribution of force. The spring clip plug can now be loaded immediately.
Follow-up/testing
After assembly, you should check the strength of the connection. Tighten the nut with the recommended torque — our teams of experts at SMK Meister will be happy to provide you with information about the optimal tightening torques for your specific project. Make sure that the spring clip dowel is secure by shaking it gently. A properly assembled attachment should not show any movement. If necessary, you can still minimally correct the position by turning the threaded rod. Document the dowels used and their position for larger projects — this makes subsequent maintenance or expansions easier.

What is the minimum cavity depth?
The required cavity depth depends on the size of the spring clip plug. With our M6 spring clip plug, the minimum cavity depth is around 35-44 mm. The exact values can be found in our technical table. Note that there must be enough space to open the spring arms.
Does the dowel also open in insulation material?
The spring folding dowel requires a free cavity to fully open. If cavities are completely filled with insulation material, the function may be impaired.
What thread length do I need for double planking?
With double planking, you must take into account the total thickness of the wall structure. The thread length should be at least as long as the sum of both panel thicknesses plus the required screw-in depth (approx. 20-30 mm). For standard cases with double plasterboard paneling (2 x 12.5 mm = 25 mm), we recommend spring folding dowels with a thread length of at least 70-90 mm. Is the dowel also available in stainless steel for humid rooms?
